Studiocanal, Canal + and Quebecor Content are jointly producing Xavier Dolan’s (Mommy) first drama series, The Night Logan Woke Up.
The psychological thriller will tell the story of three friends whose lives are destroyed after one of them commits rape. The five-episode drama, slated to begin production in March 2021, will air as Quebecor Content and Canal + Original in 2022. Studiocanal will take over the international distribution rights.
The show is adapted from Michel Marc Bouchard’s theater production of the same name. Dolan will co-write, direct and produce with Nancy Grant and Jasmyrh Lemoine of Nanoby. Javi Hernandez and Harry Grivakis from VVS Films brokered the deals on behalf of the filmmakers and will act as executive producers.
The series will feature original cast members from the 2019 play, including Julie Le Breton, Magalie Lépine-Blondeau, Éric Bruneau and Patrick Hivon, and Xavier Dolan and Julianne Côté.
Francoise Guyonnet, Executive Managing Director of the TV series at Studiocanal, said: “We are extremely honored to be able to offer our partners the very first drama series by Xavier Dolan, one of the world’s best modern filmmakers. Xavier Dolan tells deeply human stories with a unique voice and the ability to build real relationships on screen. In addition to Quebecor Content and Canal + Creation Originale, we are very proud to bring this new, prestigious series to viewers around the world. “
Cannes’ favorite dolan is known at the festival for films like Mommy and It’s Only the End of the World.
