Hello, my age is: 50
Marlien Rentmeester |
Founder of Le Catch
If you caught her in a G. Label bikini last summer and dipped into a pool with her identical twin Coliena (these are the two pictured here), you might not have guessed that Marlien Rentmeester was almost fifty years old. “Well,” laughs the founder of the wildly chic site Le Catch and self-described beauty slacker, “I am!”
“Friends keep teasing me about goop swimming – like, ‘How crazy it is that you can do this at your age,'” she says. “And I think that’s half a compliment? I mean why shouldn’t I be able to? I am glad that I can do it. I don’t have a model body, but I’m in shape. “(An understatement: she trains every day, loves to run and surf, waterski, wake surf, ski, and play paddle tennis with her two boys, ages eleven and fourteen.)
Rentmeester says she’s late for beauty routines but found positive reinforcement lately incredibly motivating: “I got the new GOOPGENES face cream and used it diligently – it feels so good and all of the clinical results looked convincing” , she says. “Then I went to lunch (outside of course) and across the street a friend saw me, ran over and wanted to know what I was doing with my skin: “Do you see that? Facial doctor even though we’re in lockdown? Your skin looks so good! ‘”

“I hope the confidence boost that has given me can help me go from being a beauty lazy to some kind of beauty simpleton – a simple plan I follow with the moisturizer, a clean sunscreen, and a few other things can. ” She says.
Along with this plan (details to follow), Rentmeester’s approach to aging is shaped more than for most of us by her close family.
Accept that you will not love
EVERYTHING ABOUT AGE
I have a twin sister and I keep reminding myself how I look – and how I change. For example, when I see her neck, I subconsciously put my hands on my neck and then she says, “You’re looking at my neck, aren’t you?” and grab her own neck. It’s like a 3D mirror – it’s fully open. But then it’s so comforting and kind of nice to have a twin to age with, someone to get along with emotionally and physically.
It’s funny, I remember the night I turned forty. I was kind of depressed and fell into this funk. And my mother said the best, “Be grateful, because right now it’s the youngest you’ll ever be again.” I think about it a lot. Today is my chance.
THANK THE GODS FOR YOUR MOM
I have to say my mom looks amazing. She has just turned eighty-two and – no kidding – she was recently mistaken for our older sister. And sometimes when she goes to the doctor the nurses come back and say, “Excuse me ma’am, we think you wrote the wrong birthday here on your form.” I have hope for myself because of my mother.
PRACTICE EVERY DAY
Even if I am a beauty lazy man, I am busy with other things like exercise. I love to run – my routine is mostly running – but I also love tennis, hiking, streaming a workout, and bootcamp type things. I do it every day, even if it’s just the seven minute workout. I have to do something. It helps that my two boys are super active, so we play tennis, water skiing, wake surfing, volleyball, running, skiing, paddle tennis, and surfing together – both of which have a talent for surfing. The most fun is riding the waves together, just pure bliss. And it gives me a chance to prove to myself that I’m capable and cool and that they can’t make fun of me.
EAT HEALTHY MOST OF THE TIME
I am very aware of what I eat and our household is both organic and gluten free. My son has celiac disease and my husband has cancer. So for us it’s mostly vegetables, not dairy, pretty healthy. But when I’m not at home, give the bread basket and extra cheese! It’s a balance.
