The Independent Filmmaker Project (IFP) announced today that it will be introducing a new annual tribute this year: the Ensemble Tribute at the 2020 IFP Gotham Awards. In its inaugural year, the award will be given to THE TRIAL OF THE CHICAGO 7, written and directed by Aaron Sorkin. The tribute, previously recognized as a judged prize, will honor the on-screen performances of a group of dynamic and remarkable actors and celebrate their combined efforts and contributions to the narrative of the film.
The IFP Gotham Awards are one of the leading awards for independent films and signal the start of the film awards season. As the first major awards show of the season, the IFP Gotham Awards provide critical early detection and media exposure to honoring independent films and their writers, directors, producers and actors with eleven competitive award categories. The awards are also unique for their ability to catapult award winners into the attention of the national award season. The 30th anniversary of the IFP Gotham Awards will be held on Monday, January 11th, 2021. The award ceremony will be presented live from Cipriani Wall Street in New York in a hybrid format with virtual interactive tables to follow the health and safety protocols brought along due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
