“My name is Maggie Holladay (@claudehome). I’m the founder of Claude Home, a vintage and design company, but my background is actually in fashion. While working for iD I kind of had a nervous breakdown and started collecting all these random home accessories. My boyfriend at the time said “Maggie, we don’t need 90 coasters” and suggested we sell them on Instagram. Soon after, I quit my job, learned more about furniture, and gained a real following online. It was then that I realized that I could turn my side project into a full career.
Now I collect furniture all day. I split my time between San Diego, Los Angeles, and NYC – I have a small showroom in the East Village and basically set it up as an office for myself. If the pieces sell, I’ll turn them off. But my main platform is still on Instagram and I do a lot of broadcasting. Many of our pieces are vintage restored with new upholstery, and we also have special collections from artists such as Chandler McLellan and Roxanne Morrison. Last year I got very interested in bouclé and am currently ordering leathers that wear well and become unique over time. You are really special. Sometimes I hang on the pieces I collect but the only thing I can’t get rid of for some reason is a plain black vase. It’s the only thing I’m really attached to because I know I can’t find anything I like better.
Many people move into an apartment thinking that they have to fully furnish it within two weeks. It’s so frustrating. I know that in a week I won’t find any more dream pieces. I’ve lived in my apartment for two years and stare at furniture for hours every day and I’m not even finished decorating. You should really wait to fall in love with something or save money to get exactly what you want instead of going straight to Ikea. Because then your apartment is that rushed process, and it looks rushed and a bit generic. This is my best advice.
I spend a lot of time on my skin and my routine is so therapeutic to me. After my morning shower, my skin care routine starts with a good wash. I’m obsessed with the Lesse Refining Cleanser, which is the perfect daily exfoliator. My next step is rubbing an ice cube all over my face. Not only is it refreshing, but I believe it will affect the overall tone and texture of my face. Plus, I think it added definition to my jaw. If you try you won’t regret it. Then I use the Lotion P50 from Biologique Recherche, which has changed my skin a lot. At night I massage Agent Nateors Refining Ageless Serum with a Gua Sha and finish everything with Drunk Elephant A Passioni Retinol Cream. But in the morning I use Dr. Barbara Sturm’s Hyaluronic Serum for darker skin tones. I’ve noticed big changes in my hyperpigmentation since incorporating this into my routine. I seal it with the Lesse Ritual Serum which is a really nice moisturizer for sensitive skin and a great product for city dwellers. I finish my morning skincare with Drunk Elephant Protini Polypeptide Moisturizer and Umber Sheer Physical Daily Defense SPF 30.
My hair is naturally curly, but I’ve never felt safe. I got a Japanese straightening treatment five years ago to change that, and now I think that decision ruined my hair. To reverse it, I’d have to let it grow out completely, and I’m not in a place to shave my head and start over. So I just keep going. I have a lot of heat damage and breaks so I use hair masks a lot – I just ran out of Crown Affair mask which is really good. And washing my hair with the super moisturizing Oribe Shampoo and Conditioner for Brilliance and Shine saves my life. When I get out I use the Crown Affair oil – that stuff smells crazy. And then Dyson literally makes the best hair products in the world. It takes five minutes to blow dry my hair with my Dyson blow dryer and it looks so much smoother than if I were using a regular one. I also have the straightener which is cordless and amazing. Using both, I can make my hair look like I have a real blowout, but give me any other hair machine and I have no idea what’s going on. I really want the Air Wrap next – I’ve watched all of these Tiktokers use it and I’m obsessed with it.
In my job, I am very much inspired by freeform shapes in nature and simple, muted pallets. I try to stick to it even when it comes to my beauty regime. When I go out at night or have breakfast in the morning, I wear the same makeup. I start with Laura Mercier Secret Camouflage Concealer in Sc-5 under my eyes and around my nose to cover up a little redness. Then I use Dior Luminous Silk Foundation at 8. I’ve never worn blush, but two years ago I found Laura Mercier’s Kir Royale in Sephora. I will never change my blush because I feel like it is really easy to go overboard. I wear Laura Mercier mascara and then Laura Mercier lipstick in Brun Naturel and that’s it. My thing is really my nails. I can’t feel together if I don’t have a manicure and I do them almost every week. The last thing I did before the city closed was to get my nails ready and the first thing I did when the salons reopened was to get my nails ready. In the middle, I had a panic attack every day – I literally put bandaids all over my nails once because I didn’t want to look at them. I have really bad nail related anxiety.
I love musky, masculine scents. I use Byredos Bibliothèque, which I think is one of those fragrances that doesn’t offend anyone. It’s very comfortable to wear and I can still smell it on me at the end of the day. In the shower, I am obsessed with washing the body made of sandalwood. It’s so moisturizing and the packaging calms me down. I take a bath every other night and I love using this holibath bath. It’s very relaxing and moisturizing. I’ll put my computer on the toilet, put on Grey’s Anatomy, pour myself a glass of wine or a cup of tea, and soak for 30 minutes. This is my time to pamper myself and pull the plug from a busy day. “
