Trailer Drops For “Coming 2 America”

Eddie Murphy is back in one of his most iconic roles. Yes, Prince Akeem (well, now King Akeem) will tickle our funny bones again. A sequel to Coming to America had been talked about for a long time, but it finally happened. Plus, we now have a trailer for Coming 2 America that we can pour over. Of course, the film was primarily acquired by Amazon Studios and will be released on Amazon Prime Video in March. So we have to wait a bit (one that will cut him off any Oscar consideration this year). Still, it’s something exciting and you can check out the trailer at the end of this post …

The film is obviously a sequel to Coming to America. The summary reads as follows: “The newly crowned King Akeem (Eddie Murphy) and his confidante Semmi (Arsenio Hall) are in the lush and regal land of Zamunda, embarking on a brand new, fun adventure from which they traverse the globe their great one African nation in the borough of Queens, New York – where it all began. Available on March 5th on Prime Video. Cast: Eddie Murphy, Arsenio Hall, Jermaine Fowler, Leslie Jones, Tracy Morgan, KiKi Layne and Shari Headley with Wesley Snipes and James Earl Jones. Also with John Amos, Teyana Taylor, Vanessa Bell Calloway, Paul Bates, Nomzamo Mbatha, Bella Murphy Script by: Kenya Barris and Barry W. Blaustein & David Sheffield Story by: Barry W. Blaustein & David Sheffield and Justin Kanew Directed by Craig Brauer Based on characters by: Eddie Murphy Produced by: Kevin Misher and Eddie Murphy Costumes by: Ruth E. Carter. “In short, Murphy will once again go wild with one of his landmark characters.

This trailer doesn’t tell you too much, but it does show some of the fun we’re likely to have early next year. If nothing else, it will be a much needed festival of laughter during these troubled times. If it’s even half as good as Coming to America, then Coming 2 America can be expected to be one of the comedic highlights of 2021.
