There is nothing less calorie and safer to drink than water. This includes all types of water, including clean tap water, bottled water, mineral water, seltzer, or sparkling water. Basically, this includes all water anywhere with no calories.
Sometimes water can contain things like sodium, sugar, or even caffeine! Make sure you don’t buy this and count as water – it’s not just water. Some types of water that have recently become commercially recognized include all three of these substances, and some people who forgot to read the label still believe that they are drinking clean water.
Here are some reasons to drink water more often:
1. Water is literally what keeps you alive.
There cannot be life without water – not just life as we know it, but life in general. Our bodies are over seventy percent water, and we have to add more and more water because we lose a certain amount if we just exist. We lose this water through excrement, urination, sweating, breathing, and pretty much everything else we do.
We need to stay well hydrated at all times – dehydration leads to fatigue, joint pain, headaches, and a host of other illnesses. The rule of three states that you can survive three weeks without food, three days without water, and three minutes without air.
2. Drinking plain water helps relieve heartburn.
Medically speaking, heartburn is literally the lack of water in the upper part of your gastrointestinal tract. When you have heartburn, your body tells you that you are thirsty.
When you have it you usually take antacids or some other type of pill but this does not cure your dehydration, instead your body continues to suffer, you just don’t feel the effects that much. If you keep taking pills when you have heartburn, you can cause some serious health problems for yourself, such as stomach and duodenitis, ulcers, hiatal hernias, or even gastrointestinal cancers, including pancreatic and liver cancers.
3. Water makes you run.
When you wake up you have coffee to prepare for the day, right? Water does the same for your body. It relieves your dry mouth and spreads throughout your body, making you feel better in subtle ways.
But don’t worry about other drinks – coffee and soda don’t have the same effect. They are indeed drinks that are marketed as refreshing, but they contain caffeine, which, through the process of diuresis, pushes more water out of your body.

It boosts your metabolism and helps you keep your appetite in check by reducing your hunger. If you don’t drink enough of it, your kidneys can’t function as well and the workload is transferred to your liver instead.
The liver then burns the fat stored in it to use it for energy. This means that if you don’t drink enough water, your body will burn much less fat because of the liver’s role in the work of your kidneys.
5. Water helps you get rid of toxins in your body as well as other metabolic wastes.
Your body is an incredibly long chain of chemical reactions, and all of them contain wastes like ketones, nitrogen, or urea, especially if you are on a high protein diet.
If you want to get more muscle back into your body, you need water to support your kidneys.

In a study conducted by Michaud and coworkers over a period of 10 years that included over 48,000 men, it was concluded that high fluid consumption decreased the likelihood of bladder cancer.
20% of the men in this study drank 2.5 liters of water per day and 20% drank 1.2 liters or less, while the other 60% were in the middle. The results clearly showed that with every additional 240 ml glass of water per day, the risk of bladder cancer decreases by 7%.
9. When you drink more water, the kidneys work properly.
If you’re not drinking enough water, your cells still need to get it from somewhere. They do this by drawing water in from the bloodstream. In this case, your heart is automatically weaker as your blood loses its fluid and thickens over time. This means that your body is prioritizing and drawing water from areas that are not strictly necessary for your body to function.
Because of this, you can get dehydrated even before you feel dehydrated, which means your kidneys will take a big blow. The kidneys play a role in cleaning your blood and removing toxins from your body. They can’t do their job if you don’t give them enough water to work with.
10. Water regulates our temperature, breaks down solids and much more.
Most of all, our body needs water. Up to 75% of your body is made up of water and is vital for the functioning of all of your organs. It regulates your organs and body temperature, breaks down solids and moves all nutrients around your body. Staying hydrated will also lower your risk of chronic pain like rheumatoid arthritis, migraines, colitis, and lower back pain, but it will also help with your blood pressure and cholesterol.
If you want to know if your water intake is adequate, just look at the color of your urine. Under optimal conditions, your urine should be light yellow in color. When it’s darker, drink more water.
Drink whenever you are thirsty and make sure you get at least eight glasses a day. If it’s hotter outside or you do strenuous exercise, you may even need ten or more glasses. Just listen to your body and your digestion, blood circulation, temperature control and the appearance of your skin will improve. Water is by far the most important thing to consume, but no one has managed to pinpoint exactly how much we need. So keep your intake at eight cups or more.
Drinks like coffee, tea, and sodas need to be kept in check as some of their effects can counter the effects of water on your body. This means that the sugar and caffeine reduce the hydration effects and you will need more water to stay functional. If you’re not adequately hydrated, sooner or later you will develop illnesses and health threats that could easily have been avoided by simply drinking regular water.
