Kate Chastain has sailed away to host on ‘Below Deck Galley Talk’ and ‘Bravo’s Chat Room’ together, but she’s now teasing that she’ll be back on a boat in the near future!
Kate ChastainThe 38-year-old has been a familiar face on Bravo’s lower deck for years as a funny Chief Stew who just doesn’t care what anyone thinks. She shocked fans when she announced her departure from the show in February 2020. But even at the time, Kate teased that we hadn’t seen the last of her on our TV screens, and luckily she kept her word. Co-hosting two talk shows on the network that helped make her famous, Kate and her hilarious one-liners are back on our screens. And we recently met Kate for an EXCLUSIVE interview from her NYC apartment on January 8th when she revealed that we may not have seen the last of her on a lower deck charter!
HOLLYWOODLIFE: Tell me about ‘Galley Talk’ and why do you love it? Do you still feel part of the Below Deck family?
KC: Galley Talk was just a pleasure because it’s the best of all worlds. I’ll watch Captain Lee and Eddie and Rachel, who I know all below deck, and with Connie, who I’ve always known, while I sit on the couch and share my opinion. I thought it might be uncomfortable to see this season after I left so I was a little nervous and I think that was really the best way to do it.
HL: You get the best of both worlds. Do you even miss Charter?
KC: Oh no! I thought it was weird to see, but it turns out that having a glass of wine on my couch is even better. If anything, I just watch and go, “Gosh, that was so much work.”
HL: Is there anyone or anything that could make you come back? If Captain Lee called you and was really in trouble, maybe you would make a special appearance?
KC: If it was Captain Lee and it was just an emergency situation with a charter I would say yes, but otherwise I would prefer to return to the yachting world as a chart guest.
HL: Do you think there is a way to have you as a guest? Could we see you for a future season?
KC: yeah you know what? After this past year, I miss traveling so much and I’m ready for it. And when I saw this season of Below Deck on Galley Talk, I really missed the fact that the Caribbean waters looked beautiful. I’m sure I’m ready for a vacation here in 2021.
HL: Maybe we’ll see you on the other side of the dock?
KC: Yes! Yes! Missile ships receive instead of give.
HL: There are some hot, hot guys in the Below Deck family. Who would you like to contact? Who is the hottest for you
KC: I’m not going to lie. This season deckhand Rob. Where is he from? How hot is he So beautiful and he’s so calm and mysterious that he gets even hotter because you say, “Does he even speak English? Would he even like me? Like who are you ?! ‘Jack from Below Deck Mediterranean. He’s pretty cute. Sure I like the bad guys.
HL: Talk to me about your relationship with Ben these days! Are you still in contact and how is that?
KC: Yeah, actually he called me this morning, but I haven’t called him back yet. I love ben. We’re like family at this point just because we’ve known each other for so long. We fight, but then we make up, but we can’t talk to each other for about a month, but we always – we don’t have to keep in touch all the time to know we love each other like family.
HL: What is your own favorite liner that you came up with?
KC: I remember – I was talking to Ben, this was season 3, and I wasn’t kidding at all. He had just got there and asked me about the crew. And he said, “Chef Lee?” and I said, “We didn’t like him.” And he says, “What about Rocky?” and I say, ‘Oh, she’s crazy too. We don’t like them either. “And he said,“ Wow, you sure don’t like a lot of people! ”And I said,“ I’m always open to hating more than one person. ”I was really sarcastic, but of course, and I think it’s pretty funny .
HL: We’re seeing Captain Lee getting really mad at Delores this season. Were you surprised by this reaction? Have you ever seen him get so mad?
KC: I’ve never seen Captain Lee get this angry in my entire life. Not with a crew member, not with a charter guest. It was really interesting to me. I’ve never seen him so angry. I think that’s because of the security concerns. He is ultimately responsible for the safety of everyone on the boat.
HL: You also do Bravo’s chat room with housewives like Porsha and Gizelle. Is there any chance that we will see you cross? You’re a New Yorker so would you ever show up?
KC: I would certainly make a cameo visit, but these housewives are the next level. I learned from working with Gizelle and Porsha in the chat room that they are just so fun and fast. It’s like a housewife vibe and it’s a little intimidating. These cameras start rolling, they start working. I would always avoid them on ‘Below Deck’ if there was a dramatic argument. I would say, ‘Oh god. Now they’re upset that I asked them to do their job, but it’s like they’re always looking. They say, “OK, will I fight you?” They are looking for where it was something I would avoid. It’s a very different ball game, Housewives. I’m like “Woah!” but it’s interesting. I really wanted to have brunch with Sonja Morgan while watching Bravo all my life. I think she’s a comedic genius. Whether there are cameras there or not, I’m looking forward to brunch with Sonja.
Below Deck Galley Talk airs on Bravo on Fridays at 8 p.m. ET / PT.
