A good period drama with great acting is a longstanding part of cinema. Last year, such a film made the rounds on the festival route in The World to Come. This romantic drama, with top-notch work from Christopher Abbott, Casey Affleck, and especially Vanessa Kirby and Katherine Waterston, has a lot going for it. Before its release next month in mid-February, Bleecker Street released a trailer. If you look at it, it’s clear how good Abbott, Affleck, Kirby and Waterston are here. You can see the trailer at the end of this post, as usual …
The film is romantic drama as you might expect. Here is the official round-up: “In this powerful nineteenth-century romance in the American Northeast, Abigail (Katherine Waterston), a peasant woman, and her new neighbor Tallie (Vanessa Kirby) are irrevocably drawn to each other. A grieving Abigail takes care of her withdrawn husband, Dyer (Casey Affleck), while the free-spirited Tallie resists the jealous control of her husband Finney (Christopher Abbott) when her intimacy begins to fill a void in each other’s lives that she is never knew it existed. Directed by Mona Fastvold and scripted by Jim Shepard and Ron Hansen, THE WORLD TO COME explores how isolation is overcome through the intensity of human connections. “
As mentioned above, this is a good one. It will be released on February 12th and is well worth a visit. Here’s the trailer for the world to come:
