Kenya Barris is the Hollywood producer known for creating the hit TV series ‘Black-ish and Grown-ish’. Both shows feature a black family in which one of the main characters is mixed races.
Now Kenya is pushing for a new TV series. On this show, starring Gabrielle Union and Zach Braff will be in an interracial relationship and Black Twitter is not happy.
When news of Kenya’s new show surfaced online, Black Twitter responded immediately with desperation over its reluctance to have a black family show that is actually – all black – His weary fans now accuse him of trying to “mix up” black families and are fed up with the game book. According to them, Kenya doesn’t seem interested in true blackness, but an idealized Hollywood version of it. Essentially the same oils, the same oils.
Kenya has created numerous television shows including the critically acclaimed Black-ish. The award-winning series also has two spin-offs, Grown-ish and Mixed-ish. He was a writer for The Game, Girlfriends and Soul Food.
Barris created and produced America’s Next Top Model with Tyra Banks. He wrote the film Girls Trip. He co-produced the 2019 film Little and co-wrote the script for the 2019 theatrical release Shaft.
