When Gwyneth Paltrow is on a cleanup, we listen. We pay attention because she’s our boss and because she sure is Gwyneth Paltrow – but mostly we listen because we know how many protocols she’s tried to optimize her wellbeing. (Fact Checking: We Lost the Count.) The options are many, and sometimes they require a level of commitment that isn’t worth the quality of the payout.
What could be nicer than sacrificing a guinea pig and taking advantage of their hard-earned wisdom?
goop Press INTUITIVE FASTING bookstore, $ 26
This month, goop’s original tester is doing the functional medicine expert Will Cole’s intuitive fasting program. It’s not cleaning at all. It’s a new approach to understanding your body’s signals and eating for satisfaction and recovery. And what we hear from her is a rare rave review: GP says she feels great – and set back.
You can read about the four week program in Cole’s goop Press book Intuitive Fasting, which describes the most effective ways to fast and which foods to eat to amplify the benefits of intermittent fasting. He also shares holistic strategies for reducing inflammation, recharging your metabolism, and restoring bowel health. You have access to menus, recipes, daily meal plans – and a lot of flexibility. This book is not going to punish or limit you. Instead, Cole leads you to connect (or reconnect) with your own body and intuition.
We’ll let GP explain in their own words.
PS GP is hosting a virtual chat with Cole on Tuesday, February 23 at 7 p.m. ET. Here you can get a ticket that contains a copy of the book.
From intuitive fasting
Of all the different types of food I’ve tried over the years – from macrobiotic to vegan to cleanses where I’ll spare you the details – this worked for me: Intuitive eating. When I eat what feels right to me, I feel best.
However, this type of advice is usually provided with no road map to get there. As if something intuitive does not require further discussion, while dogmatic diets are remembered and memorized.
Will Cole gave me – and you – a road map. Intuitive Fasting is Will’s clear four-week program that will keep you feeling great for the weeks ahead. This is not a book of dogma. It won’t punish or limit you. If there is anything difficult on these pages, it is Will’s request that you be willing to listen to yourself, your own body, your intuition. While this may seem easy, it usually isn’t easy, at least not at first. But with Will’s voice guiding you to recalibrate yourself and a newfound understanding of what your body is asking for and how to respond, it becomes doable – and I would even say exhilarating.
There are healers who share Will’s passion for understanding classical research. Some share his passion for working one-on-one with patients, while others share his passion for helping chronically ill or mysteriously ill patients who arrive at his office after “trying everything”. Some share his passion for spreading what he knows to the general public in an accessible way. But very few people share all of these passions. Fewer attempts to keep it up. Less find success in this. And as far as I know, nobody does it with the humility and warmth that Will does.
Intuitive fasting is the best of him: it is what he knows about food and nutrition, and the best ways to nourish the body and aid its healing functions. It is full of what he learned about reducing inflammation, restoring balance, boosting metabolism, and resetting bowel health. Yes, it includes results from research studies, but it also reveals some surprising insights into fasting that Will discovered by simply listening to his patients. (Another thing I love about Will: He hears – and learns – from his patients.)
It was a joy to witness the Will Cole Effect and watch how it helps transform and optimize the health of people around the world. I am glad that you feel it too.
