HBO really wants you to look forward to their content this year. To that end, the network recently released a trailer for the upcoming 2021 shows. There are a number of interesting ones, but the boss among them is a miniseries remake of the Ingmar Bergman classic Scenes From a Marriage. Similar to how the Swedish original was televised as several episodes, this will be this one too. Here Jessica Chastain and Oscar Isaac will be the couple at the center of the series of events. These two have obviously worked together before, especially on A Most Violent Year. So it will be a real treat to watch them challenge it again.
Variety had this to say when covering the miniseries last year when it was Michelle Williams to Isaac as opposed to Chastain:
Oscar Isaac and Michelle Williams star in an HBO adaptation of Ingmar Bergman’s “Scenes From a Marriage,” Variety has learned.
Bergman’s version was broadcast on Swedish television in 1973 and consisted of six episodes. Bergman directed Liv Ullmann and Erland Josephson. The new version aims to re-examine the portrayal of love, hate, desire, monogamy, marriage and divorce through the lens of a contemporary American couple.
Williams and Isaac will also produce Executive Productions in addition to the lead role. Hagai Levi will write, direct and produce executive productions. Michael Ellenberg will be executive producers through Media Res. Amy Herzog, Lars Blomgren, Daniel Bergman and Blair Breard will also serve as executive producers. Media Res and Endeavor content is produced.
