Hatred against Asian-American and Pacific islanders has grown during the pandemic, and the fashion industry cannot be silent. “History has proven that the world does not suffer from the violence of bad people, but from the silence of good people,” wrote designer Prabal Gurung on his personal Instagram page. “Not speaking out against pure evil is the same as working with it.” Gurung is one of the many prominent Asian American fashion designers, influencers, and industry professionals who spoke out on the worrying trend, including the terrible Atlanta shootings, but the burden should never rest on the AAPI community alone.
There are many avenues you can take if you want to stand up against anti-Asian violence: donating, helping small businesses, raising awareness, reporting racism, educating, and sharing GoFundMe campaigns. Before the next election cycle, you can also take notes of which US officials voted against a resolution condemning all forms of anti-Asian sentiment related to the pandemic.
Additionally, you can scroll down to buy items from brands that donate a portion of their proceeds to specific AAPI organizations.
