Roomies, it was announced that “The Dream and Promise Act” was passed by parliament on a 228-197 vote, according to ABC News. This bill provides a route to citizenship for young undocumented migrants known as “dreamers” as well as others currently residing in the US who have temporary protection status. This bill will support many who were brought to the United States as children. The measure, along with another bill, will also give legal status to undocumented farm workers. This bill was passed by the Democrats in the last session of Congress, but remained in a GOP-controlled Senate.
According to the report, nine Republicans, along with Democrats, voted to pass the measure, which would affect around 3.4 million people. House spokeswoman Nancy Pelosi issued a series of tweets celebrating the good news. She tweeted, “America’s Dreamers, TPS, and DED recipients are essential members of our communities. Today @HouseDemocrats voted to recognize their contributions to our country and their pursuit of the American Dream through the passage of the Dream and Promise Act. #HomeIsHere ”
Nancy continued, “During the pandemic, farm workers risked their lives to feed America. Today’s passing of the Farm Workers Modernization Act honors their work and is evidence of the truth that immigrants are the constant revitalization of our nation. #HomeIsHere ”
Several roommates loved the good news. One commented: “The backbone of many countries, the people who do not want to recognize them.” Another commented, sharing her own testimony that she came to the US at a young age, and commented, “I came here when I was 3 years old. That was always my dream !! I thought I would never be able to achieve it. “
