The possibilities in engagement ring designs can seem endless, making it nearly impossible to choose a style that you love. But if you’re the type of bride looking for something outside of the traditional range of engagement rings, you’ve come to the right place.
We spoke to independent jewelry brand Catbird, whose marketing manager Sriya Karumanchi said, “In recent years we’ve seen people really embrace rings with unexpected stones and cuts, a pretty significant departure from rings that focus on the white diamond center stone. Opals, emeralds, deep sapphires and gray diamonds in bohemian settings are some of our favorite this year. “
We’re noticing a big trend in ring designs that favor the unexpected and unconventional over the perfectly symmetrical. While design elements like clear diamonds and symmetrical settings have long been the standard for engagement rings, many brides alter their value creation in an engagement ring. “I think the perspective has changed. The value of a ring doesn’t just have to come from a set of rules established by the jewelry industry – cut, clarity, carat, and color are common,” explains Karumanchi. “The value is based on what you hold in the piece. It could come from a feel of a family heirloom or maybe a particular stone and motif that really appealed to you when you tried the ring on.”
Instead of simple placements, you’ll find elaborate settings on vintage-inspired rings below. Instead of regular diamonds, you’ll see rich colors, and instead of round or square stones, it’s the unexpected shapes that you’ll find on the unique engagement rings below.
