Charles Beeson, the British television director who directed episodes of The Mentalist and worked on the upcoming adaptation of Around The World In 80 Days, has died.

Actor Jim Beaver, who worked with Beeson on The CW’s Supernatural, among others, announced the news on Twitter. Beeson’s agent also confirmed his death when contacted by ..

“RIP my great friend Charles Beeson,” wrote Beaver. “A sweet and gentle sociable guy that you couldn’t meet.” When asked by Ashley Gable, executive producer of The Mentalist, Beaver replied that Beeson had a heart attack.

Beeson began his directing career with the legendary BBC soap EastEnders, while also directing episodes of other shows that have long been part of British television history, including the medical drama Casualty, the police series The Bill and Inspector Morse.

Beeson was also known for his work on the BBC spy series Spooks, while his US credits include Smallville, The Vampire Diaries, Person of Interest, and Timeless. He has directed 14 episodes of Supernatural and most recently directed a number of episodes on the upcoming David Tennant series Around The World In 80 Days.
