Goop Beauty Editors Jean Godfrey-June and Megan O’Neill love to ask and answer questions. In their podcast, The Beauty Closet, they do both. To familiarize you with the guests each week, we created a beauty (and life) questionnaire.
This week we’re talking to:
Danica Patrick, author, podcast host,
Entrepreneur and former racing driver
As the most successful woman in American open wheel racing history, Danica Patrick never felt that she had to gently pedal her gender or minimize her considerable physical attraction in order to be more comfortable for other people. “It’s the saying: the way you treat me says nothing about me and everything about you,” she says. “I do not deny that I am a woman. I don’t care what people say because I don’t deny these things. I greet them, allow them, hug them and use them. Sometimes the things we deny that make us different are exactly what it takes to get to the next level. “
Now the author of two books (Pretty Intense and Danica: Crossing the Line); the host of Pretty Intense, a podcast about pursuing personal and professional dreams; and the founder of Somnium Wine (“Somnium” is Latin for dream) is at least as busy as racing cars, but much more grounded. “I let go of the race instead of stopping,” she says. It was a spiritual change for her – one that drove her transition to entrepreneurship. “If you get close to what you want, knowing that it’s too hard, that it’s not possible, it will continue to be too difficult and impossible,” she says. “Hard times don’t last, but tough people.”
Patrick balances that tenacity with wellness practices and self-care. “I meditate, I keep a journal, I draw cards, I have crystals,” she says. She also loves clean beauty – a lot of it – so we had to pick her favorites.
