EXCLUSIVE: Storyboard Media and CAA Media Finance start selling the detective thriller Marlowe in front of the virtual market in Cannes, as we can reveal.
Taken star Liam Neeson will lead the noir thriller around Raymond Chandler’s legendary detective Philip Marlowe, while Oscar winner Neil Jordan (The Crying Game) will direct the script by Oscar winner William Monahan (The Departed).
The project has a great premise that Neeson could excel in. Based on the novel The Black-Eyed Blonde, the 1950s film hires private detective Marlowe (Neeson) to find the ex-lover of a glamorous heiress. At first it looks like an open and closed case, but Marlowe soon finds himself in the womb of the Hollywood film industry and is unwittingly drawn into the crossfire of a legendary Hollywood actress and her subversive, ambitious daughter.

The project, which was first presented in 2017, has now received new impetus as producers and sellers bring the package to market and a start date is planned for October 2021 with filming in LA and Europe.
Pic is produced by Alan Moloney, Gary Levinsohn, Mark Fasano and Billy Hines along with co-producers Redmond Morris and Patrick Hibler and Philip Kim of Storyboard. Executive producers are Elisabeth Costa de Beauregard, Patrick Muldoon, Jeff Rice, Steven Sims, Harris Tulchin, Tobias Weymar and Christopher Hines.
Elisabeth Costa de Beauregard from Storyboard Media takes over the international distribution of the film and introduces it to buyers for Cannes. CAA Media Finance will represent the domestic market.
Monahan’s script is an adaptation of John Banville’s The Black Eyed Blonde, released in March 2014 and developed for the big screen with Screen Ireland. The Irish writer wrote the novel under his pen name Benjamin Black as a continuation of the iconic characters and world of Raymond Chandler.
Jason Bourne and Captain Phillips Casting Director Dan Hubbard, who recently cast the Liam Neeson action pic memory that is currently being shot in Europe, are also on board.
While Neeson and Monahan worked together on Kingdom Of Heaven, and Neeson and Jordan also worked together on Michael Collins and Breakfast On Pluto, this will be the first project all three will work together.
The character Marlowe, immortalized in Raymond Chandler’s noir novels such as The Big Sleep, has been portrayed on screen by some of the greats, including Humphrey Bogart, James Garner, Robert Mitchum, Danny Glover and James Caan.
Neeson is represented by CAA and ARG. Jordan is represented by Casarotto Ramsey and CAA. Monahan is represented by LBI and CAA. The Raymond Chandler Estate is represented by The Agency and RCW. Storyboard Media producers Kim and Hibler and executive producers Costa de Beauregard and Muldoon will be represented by Harris Tulchin of Harris Tulchin & Associates.
