Clear Swap: Making Self-Care (and Pores and skin Care) Clear and Efficient

0

Skin care has always been a part of Erica Ndlovu’s self-care practice. “In the evenings I like to take time to apply serums – this is the way to end the day in a relaxed manner,” says the goop Junior Associate Beauty editor. “I always had to be extra careful with oily, acne-prone skin.” As calming and stress-relieving as Ndlovu’s skin care routine was at first, it never saw the results she was hoping for. “It started to get more boring and less concerned with self-care,” she says.

After she came to goop, she slowly replaced her traditional products with clean ones. Now the rituals are just as relaxing, but the results, she says, have improved. “Since I switched to clean, my skin is clearer, more even and more radiant,” she says. “I see lasting changes and look forward to this self-care practice every morning and evening.”

vitamin C

I learned that not all vitamin C products are created equal and that the best for the skin comes in the form of L-ascorbic acid. You mix this with hyaluronic acid serum when you first use it and the vitamin C will then stay super strong for the three months it takes. My skin looks radiant right after it’s applied, and my skin tone has definitely looked more even over the last three months I’ve been using it.

Sun protection

Since I have acne scars, sunscreen is an absolute must to keep these spots from attracting attention. I apply this all-mineral sunscreen to my face and neck. It has a lovely tint that blends seamlessly with my skin, and it feels so smooth and moisturizing.

Lip balm

My lips tend to get very dry, but since I’ve been using the multifunctional balm by Olio E Osso, they have been moisturized and cuddly-soft. I usually rub the Tea Rose shade over my lips for a nice shine and added warmth. I always carry it with me too – it’s great for quickly washing off moisture and color for your lips or cheeks.

Double cleaning

The double cleansing gave my skin an absolute game changer: I’ve had fewer pimples since I started. It also leaves your skin feeling deeply clean, but also soft and moisturized. I start with Wonder Valley Oil Cleaner, which melts away makeup and dirt and turns into a milky emulsion when splashed on water. It has a nice citrus scent. I follow that with Tammy Fender’s Cleansing Cleanser, which removes all makeup residue and cleanses my pores. For a split second, the scent of Spearmint turns my bathroom into a spa.

humidity

My skin used to go through stages where it looked a little dull and frankly tired, and I would put on more makeup during the day to bring back the shine. Now I use this serum at night and I wake up bright and refreshed. It’s made from botanicals like cotton thistle extract and purslane, and somehow my skin just looks fresher and brighter, and I find myself using less makeup.

treatment

I had heard of this serum for a while, but it was when I was avoiding oils for fear that they would make my skin problems worse. After coming to goop – where practically every employee likes oils, regardless of skin type – I took the plunge with this botanical serum. My only regret is not having used it sooner: not only does my skin look brighter and more moisturized from fatty acids and omega 3, 6, 7 and 9; it has also calmed down significantly. I rub the oil between my palms for about fifteen seconds and inhale the incredibly soothing scent before dabbing it on my skin.

peeling

I started using this amazing face scrub before I got to Goop. A friend recommended it, and she was absolutely spot-on. I massage it into my skin while showering and leave it on while I soap the rest of my body. After rinsing, I immediately feel the smoothing effect – my whole face feels immaculately clean and all of my products are better absorbed into my skin afterwards.

Moisturizing mask

When I tried this mask for the first time, I was overwhelmed. My skin drank it up in just twenty minutes and then looked remarkably fresh and cuddly soft. Now I use it in between Microderm days or whenever my skin looks a little dull or needs a boost of moisture. The rose scent is subtle and relaxing and makes this mask great right before bed.
