Mark Wahlberg discusses the challenges he confronted whereas having to achieve a whole lot of weight
Hollywood actor Mark Wahlberg joins the discussion about the hardships and challenges he faced while gaining weight for his latest role in Father Stu.
It has always been a matter of course that Mark Wahlberg is a fit person. But buff is not always the same, and that’s exactly what he had to achieve for his latest and upcoming film called Stu, which tells the true story of a boxer who switched his profession to be a priest. The famous actor had to eat an enormous amount of food to gain the twenty pounds he needed in less than a month.
On the Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon, the A-List actor spoke via videoconference for security reasons about the challenging process for this role and another role for his upcoming film Joe Bell.
To play his role as Father Stu in the film of the same name, Mark Wahlberg had to eat a whopping 7,000 calories a day for two weeks, and then those calories rose to 11,000 over the next two weeks, which is an excruciating and horrific process for anyone and everyone would result in people not looking forward to having another meal.
The star then announced, “Unfortunately, I had to eat 7,000 calories for two weeks and then 11,000 calories for another two weeks,” he continues. “And it was fun for about an hour. It’s such a tough, physical thing. “
Wahlberg adds, “When you lose weight, you just have to hold on – you just don’t eat or exercise. And that, even if you are full, I wake up after dinner and eat again. I ate every three hours. It wasn’t fun. “
The Hollywood actor goes on to explain how he wakes up, has a meal, and then has another meal. He continued to eat one meal every three hours every day.
But since he recently turned 50, this is not an easy task as at that age it is more difficult to get the body through these changes, especially for such a short period of time.
Fallon then asked him if his current age made it harder to gain weight and lose weight.
The actor answered truthfully: “Yes, absolutely”. “You know, once your metabolism slows down, it gets really difficult.”
Mark Wahlberg then shared that he had tried making the film for six years and he only had thirty days to make it. Not only that, he had put a lot of money into making the film, which also gave him a sense of urgency to get it done quickly.
Another thing he shared in early May was a three-week before-and-after photo post on his Instagram profile, and the transformation will be evident when the film is released.
The Hollywood star will most likely be relieved by now not having to consume as many calories a day and hopefully it was all worth the effort and pain that went into it.
While there’s no set release date for Father Stu yet, Joe Bell hit theaters on July 23, 2021.
